Godfrey Kurari was born in Mufakose, a township of Harare, Zimbabwe.
EARLY LIFE:
Godfrey developed an early connection to his surroundings, with the natural environment playing an important role in shaping his outlook and creative direction.
LIVES:
He is based in Zimbabwe.
CAREER:
Godfrey began his sculptural career in 1986 when he joined a well known group of artists, collecting stone from the countryside to work with. In 1993, he chose to pursue a more independent path, working alongside fellow artists in rural areas near Harare.
MATERIALS:
He works primarily in stone.
STYLE AND SUBJECTS:
His work is deeply connected to nature, which he sees as inseparable from his artistic practice. Working outdoors in open spaces, he draws inspiration from the surrounding landscape, particularly trees and the changing environment. His sculptures reflect this close relationship with the natural world and his concern for its preservation.
AWARDS AND EXHIBITIONS:
Godfrey has worked and exhibited as part of Zimbabwe’s sculptural community.
