BORN:
David White was born in Harare, Zimbabwe.

EARLY LIFE:
David grew up in a family of artists with diverse talents, one of his brothers is a guitarist in a popular group. He attended Gunguwo Primary School in his rural home in Chiweshe, in the northeastern part of the country, an area rich in serpentine stone. At the age of ten, he was introduced to stone sculpture by local artists and immediately decided to pursue it as a lifelong career. Recognizing his talent, John Nyakusengwa brought him to Harare, Glenview, to work as an assistant, where David gained exposure to a wider artistic environment. He later studied under Sam Kuvhenguhwa, whose mentorship helped shape David into the accomplished artist he is today. Over time, David developed his own style, focusing on sculpting human heads, with particular attention to hairstyles. The curls and textures in his sculptures express extraordinary femininity, which has become his signature.
