Claire Norrington is a British Post War Contemporary artist who was born in 1969.
EARLY LIFE:
From an early stage, Claire demonstrated a strong interest in art and three dimensional form, leading her to pursue sculpture as her primary means of expression. Her early experiences informed a practice rooted in observation, craftsmanship, and a sensitivity to material and space.
LIVES:
She is based in the United Kingdom.
EDUCATION:
Claire completed her studies at Winchester School of Art, graduating in 1991, where she developed her sculptural techniques and artistic direction.
CAREER:
Since completing her education, Claire has established a long standing career as a professional sculptor. Her work has been exhibited in both solo and group exhibitions across London, Hampshire, Oxfordshire, Suffolk, and internationally in Maine, USA. She has created numerous public artworks and undertaken a wide range of private commissions, including projects for Marks & Spencer, The General Trading Co, and Wessex Children’s Hospital in Hampshire. In recent years, her practice has increasingly focused on sculpture for public spaces. In 1998, she was elected to the Royal Society of British Sculptors, becoming the youngest artist to receive this distinction.
MATERIALS:
Claire works with a variety of materials suited to both indoor and outdoor environments, producing durable sculptures that respond to their architectural and landscape settings.
STYLE AND SUBJECTS:
Her work is characterised by elegant, often figurative forms, frequently exploring themes of the human figure, movement, and emotion. Claire’s sculptures balance realism with stylisation, resulting in pieces that are both expressive and accessible, particularly within public and communal spaces.
