Carole Waller
EARLY LIFE:
Carole grew up with a strong interest in art and textiles, which later shaped her distinctive approach to materials and space. Early experiences with painting, design, and craft fostered her experimental attitude toward media and installation.
LIVES:
She lives and works in Bath.
EDUCATION:
Carole earned a BA in Fine Art and an MA in Fine Art Textiles, studying at Canterbury College of Art and Cranbrook Academy of Art. She has also developed extensive teaching experience, instructing Contemporary Art Practice and Textiles at Bath Spa University, and serving as a tutor at West Dean College.
CAREER:
Carole Waller is an internationally recognised textile artist. She creates painted clothing, as well as paintings on veils of cloth that are transformed into three-dimensional installations. More recently, she has developed techniques for laminating fine cloth in glass, producing durable, monumental works that combine the fragility of textiles with the strength of glass. Her work has been exhibited internationally for over fifteen years.
MATERIALS:
She works with a variety of media, including textiles, paint, and glass. Her innovative use of glass as a laminating medium allows her delicate cloth artworks to exist in both indoor and outdoor spaces.
STYLE AND SUBJECTS:
Her imagery is often figurative, occasionally abstract, and generally human in scale. Drawing inspiration from light, colour, memory, and ideas, Carole’s work explores the interaction between materials, space, and perception, with both intimate and large-scale pieces.
AWARDS AND EXHIBITIONS:
Her work has been widely exhibited internationally in galleries, showcasing both her painted clothing and large-scale installations, cementing her reputation as a pioneering contemporary textile artist.
