Root Form, Teak, Unique, 248cm high by 190cm wide by 68cm deep , Nature sculpture
This piece is a striking teak wood sculpture that transforms a natural tree root into a monumental artwork. Standing 248cm high, 190cm wide, and 68cm deep, the piece bridges the boundary between furniture design and organic sculpture. A large tree root dominates the form, its mass cut into a flat section that reveals the inner life of the wood. The cut edges are smoothed down, drawing attention to the intricate rings, textures, and tonal variations hidden within the tree’s structure.
Mounted on a stump, the root rises with the help of two slender metal poles. These supports press into a smaller root beneath, creating both balance and grounding. The metal elements remain discreet, so the focus stays firmly on the natural beauty of the teak. Consequently, the sculpture feels both rooted and elevated, hovering between raw nature and refined craft.
The organic curves and branching shapes suggest growth and resilience, while the smoothed cut offers a window into the tree’s history. This tension between untouched texture and crafted surface gives the work its character. From one side, the sculpture feels wild and sprawling; from another, it feels ordered and contained.
Altogether, Root Form is more than a piece of furniture. It is a celebration of natural design, elevated into art through thoughtful presentation. The work invites reflection on the hidden beauty of organic structures and the ways in which human hands can frame and honour nature without erasing its essence.
