Rain Drop by Martyn Barratt, Kiln Formed Glass, Unique, 138cm (including base) high by 93cm wide by 25cm (base) 8cm (glass) deep , Nature sculpture
Repaired damage to top of sculpture. Price to reflect this imperfection.
Rain Drop by Martyn Barratt is a unique kiln-formed glass sculpture, standing 138 cm high including its base, 93 cm wide, with a depth of 25 cm at the base and 8 cm through the glass. The piece takes the shape of an abstract raindrop, its form both fluid and architectural, suspended with an elegance that highlights the luminous qualities of glass.
The surface shimmers with streaks of turquoise, subtle in their variation, shifting in hue as light moves across the piece. These streaks run through the raindrop’s form like captured streams of water, echoing the movement and translucence of rain itself. Rising from the base, golden feathering begins as delicate lines before spreading outward on either side, eventually wrapping around the flattened raindrop shape. This golden detail acts as both a frame and a current, guiding the eye upward and suggesting energy radiating through the form.
The balance between turquoise and gold creates a dialogue of cool and warm tones, evoking sky and sunlight, rain and reflection. The flattened shape of the raindrop enhances this impression, offering both weight and fragility.
Barratt’s Rain Drop blends natural inspiration with abstraction, capturing the fleeting beauty of rainfall while fixing it into solid, radiant form. Light becomes an essential part of the sculpture, activating its colours and textures, making each viewing moment feel unique.
