This piece is a mixed-media sculpture. It presents a classic steam engine built from wood and a wide range of metals. From the outset, the piece feels mechanical and purposeful. The artist assembles the train from carefully cut components, each one contributing to the overall structure. As a result, the engine reads clearly despite its handmade construction.
The locomotive sits firmly on a wooden base. Below it, raised railway tracks support the form and ground the sculpture in a familiar setting. The wheels, pipes, and engine housing interlock tightly. Meanwhile, bolts, screws, and fused joints remain visible. These connections celebrate the process of construction rather than hiding it. Even so, the proportions remain convincing. The mechanics reflect the logic of a real steam engine, not a loose interpretation.
Across the surface, different metals retain their natural hues. Silvers, browns, and darker tones sit side by side. This variation adds depth and visual rhythm. At the same time, the wood introduces warmth and contrast. It softens the industrial feel without weakening it.
The sculpture balances precision and character. It feels solid, yet full of small discoveries. As the eye moves along the length of the train, new details appear in every section. Ultimately, the piece pays tribute to engineering, craftsmanship, and the enduring fascination with early steam locomotives.

The Sculpture Park will be in contact after purchase to arrange a delivery date. Delivery will require at least 1 person, which will be provided by The Sculpture Park wherever possible. We can provide an installation service upon request, email Sian at sian@thesculpturepark.com to discuss details. Delivery and installation will be provided by The Sculpture Park for mainland Great Britain, excluding the Channel Islands, Scottish Highlands and Republic of Ireland. A mainland courier company will handle any onward shipping.
