Symetrical by Cliff Makore, Avocado Stone, Unique, 71cm high, 79cm wide, 20cm deep
Symetrical by Cliff Makore is a distinctive Shona Avocado stone sculpture that explores symmetry, balance and repetition through a bold abstract form. Measuring 71 cm high, 79 cm wide and 20 cm deep, this unique sculpture develops across a predominantly flat plane, creating a composition designed to offer two closely related yet individual viewing experiences.
Rising from a solid base, the form gradually divides before sweeping outwards and curving back around itself. Makore uses broad, flowing lines to create an almost circular rhythm, guiding the eye from the grounded lower section through the folding shapes above. Consequently, the sculpture combines a sense of movement with carefully controlled balance.
Symetrical maintains a relatively shallow 20 cm depth, with its visual energy moves primarily across its height and width. This approach gives the work a strong silhouette and encourages the viewer to experience it from either of its two principal sides. Moreover, this dual perspective directly reinforces the sculpture’s title, with each face offering a corresponding interpretation of the same abstract composition.
The natural qualities of Avocado stone further enhance Makore’s design. Its substantial character gives weight to the broad curves, while the stone’s organic qualities complement the sculpture’s smooth, flowing geometry.
Ultimately, Symetrical transforms a solid block of stone into a thoughtful study of balance, mirrored perspectives and continuous form. As a unique Cliff Makore sculpture, it combines contemporary abstraction with the craftsmanship of Zimbabwean Shona stone sculpture. Creating a striking focal point for a modern interior or sculpture collection.
