Root table with glass top and chairs by Anon Unknown, Wood, Glass, Unique, 70cm high by 130cm wide by 130cm deep, Furniture sculpture
Root Table with Glass Top and Chairs is a unique wood and glass furniture sculpture that blends nature’s raw power with refined craftsmanship. The work transforms tree roots into a striking table and set of chairs, turning organic material into both art and function.
The chairs take their form from large roots. Each root keeps its rugged twists and natural holes. Only one section is cut away to create a seat. That seat is carefully smoothed and shaped for comfort, while the rest of the root remains untouched. The contrast between the untouched surface and the refined seat highlights the natural strength of the material.
The table carries the same dialogue between raw and crafted. Two roots stack to form its base, their shapes interlocking with natural rhythm. The top root is shaped flat, supporting a circular glass surface. The glass softens the weight of the wood beneath, creating balance between lightness and solidity. Its transparency also allows the viewer to admire the roots from above, emphasizing the sculpture’s depth and detail.
Together, the table and chairs form more than functional furniture. They stand as a living artwork, grounding the room in the organic flow of nature. The design respects the roots’ original form while shaping them just enough to serve human use. This harmony between function and sculpture makes the piece both practical and poetic.
