Nude Face by Abbott Van Dada, Bronze, Edition of 6, 28cm high by 43cm wide by 20cm deep, Abstract, People Sculpture
Nude Face by Abbott Van Dada is a bronze sculpture, part of an edition of six. The piece measuring 28 cm high, 43 cm wide, and 20 cm deep. The piece depicts two abstract faces merging together in a melting, fluid form. One face stretches outward while the other compresses, creating a striking contrast in distortion. Despite their differences, the faces appear fused, as if flowing into one another.
The expressions differ subtly. One face has its mouth open, conveying tension or surprise, while the other is nearly expressionless, so distorted it resists clear emotion. The juxtaposition of the faces creates a sense of motion and tension, as though the forms are caught mid-transformation.
The bronze is smoothed and polished, allowing light to reflect across its folds and curves. Deep bronze tones dominate, while subtle hints of green accentuate the textures and undulations of the surface. Each ridge, crease, and contour is meticulously rendered, giving the piece both a surreal and tactile presence.
From different angles, the sculpture changes dramatically. Shadows deepen the melted forms, emphasizing the distortion and interplay between the two faces. The abstract treatment of human features creates a tension between recognition and ambiguity, inviting viewers to examine the boundaries between form and fluidity.
Through its polished surface, dynamic distortion, and rich colour, Nude Face captures a moment of transformation, blending abstraction with human emotion.
