New Beginning by Nesbert Mukomberanwa stands 52 cm high, 30 cm wide, and 15 cm deep, carved from dark springstone and polished to a smooth black finish. The sculpture forms a looping shape that rises in a clean, continuous arc. As the curve travels upward, it twists sharply at one point, creating a moment of tension before the line folds over itself and flows back around. This twist becomes the visual anchor, giving the loop a sense of renewal and forward motion.
The inner opening remains tight and focused, drawing the eye into the center before guiding it outward again along the polished surface. Each angle offers a different sense of movement, sometimes broad and sweeping, sometimes narrow and concentrated. The stone’s deep, glossy finish enhances these shifting views, catching light along the edges and emphasizing the crisp transitions in the form.
Minimal shaping keeps attention on the loop’s path rather than on decorative details. Soft planes curve into sharper ridges near the twist, creating a rhythm that feels deliberate and balanced. The sculpture conveys progress and continuity through its clean geometry, inviting viewers to follow the line and consider the idea of beginnings folding into new directions.
Mukomberanwa’s use of springstone reinforces the work’s strength and clarity. The weight of the material contrasts with the lightness of the form, giving the loop a steady presence while still suggesting motion and change.
