Blooming Flower by Chewa, Serpentine, Unique, 35cm high by 20cm wide by 12cm deep, Abstract sculpture
This work captures growth and movement through an abstract floral form. From the first glance, the sculpture feels light, balanced, and quietly expressive.
The form rises in a gentle curl. First, it loops at the base, where it cradles a smooth rounded sphere. This lower loop feels grounded and nurturing. Then, the shape continues upward and twists again. However, the upper loop remains open. Light passes cleanly through it, creating contrast and visual breathing space. As a result, the sculpture feels alive rather than closed or contained.
Although the form never reconnects with itself, the flow remains continuous. Each curve leads naturally into the next. Therefore, the eye moves easily around the piece. Chewa relies on rhythm and balance instead of symmetry. This choice reinforces the idea of organic growth, much like a flower unfolding in stages.
Texture plays a key role throughout. Chewa smooths and polishes the entire surface. Consequently, the serpentine stone reveals its subtle character. Grey tones mix with tan and black speckling, shifting gently as light moves across the form. These natural markings add depth without distracting from the shape.
Overall, Blooming Flower expresses renewal, openness, and quiet optimism. Through restraint and fluid design, Chewa transforms solid stone into a sculpture that feels delicate, airy, and emotionally resonant.
