Walter Chandavarenga
Born
Walter Chandavengerwa was born in Guruve, Zimbabwe in 1973.
Early Life
Walter completed 11 years of schooling before going on to become a sculptor, he belongs to the Kore Kore tribe, and his totem is soko vafanaka (monkey).
Career
Walter began sculpting in 1987 after being influenced by Christopher Kasina. He has since been showing his work worldwide.
Materials
He works primarily with locally sourced stone from Zimbabwe.
Style & Subject
His work is influenced by the Shona style, featuring abstracted figures depicted in flowing, dynamic shapes and forms.
