Vladimír Žíla was born in 1948 and died in 2005.
Early Life
Vladimír was the son of Zdeněk Žíla, founder of the Crystalex CZ glassworks factory in Nový Bor, Czech Republic.
Career
Vladimír was a distinguished glass artist, master craftsman, and educator. He led a grinding studio at the Nový Bor Glass School before founding his own glass studio in 1988. His son Vladimír Žíla Jr would later found the ASTERA company.
Materials
He worked with optical crystal combined with coloured sodium-potassium glass. Each piece being hand crafted with great care and precision.
Style & Subject
His notable Diamond of Interior series consists of finely crafted chamber glass objects. His work is characterized by precise grinding techniques and the interplay of optical properties, creating highly refined, imaginative sculptural forms. His glass works having a geometric shape and appearance to them, letting the colours within his works stand out.
