Tago Tazvitya
Born
Tago Tazvitya was born in Chegutu, Mashonaland, western Zimbabwe, in 1954.
Early Life
He is a self-taught artist, inspired by the renowned first-generation Shona sculptor John Takawira.
Career
Tago has worked as a full-time artist since 1978 and is regarded as a senior figure within the local artistic community. He has been actively involved with the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe. Since 2009, he has held part-time resident artist positions in Germany and the Netherlands, where he conducts sculpture workshops. His work has been exhibited internationally in both solo and group exhibitions.
Materials
Tago’s sculptures are carved from locally sourced Zimbabwean stone.
Style & Subject
Working within the Shona sculptural tradition, he explores various aspects of human nature. His work often features his trademark stork motifs, which serve as symbolic representations within his practice.
