Born
Simon Evans was born in 1963.

Education
Simon studied art and design in Blackburn, gaining an honours degree from Coventry University in 1988, specialising in steel sculpture. Some of his student works include Bucephalus in Coventry and Religious Cross at Derby Cathedral.

Career
Simon joined the Police in 1990 while continuing to create sculptures, with works exhibited in Blackburn and other towns. He produced a 40-foot-tall steel minotaur for his degree show, displayed outside Coventry Cathedral as a foil to Epstein’s St Michael and the Devil. 

Materials
Works primarily in steel, including Corten steel.

Style & Subject
Simon works mainly with large-scale steel sculptures, often featuring mythological and symbolic subjects such as equine figures and the minotaur. His work is abstract and stylised, using bold shapes and forms to create his figures.
