Sean Rice

BORN:
Sean was born in London in 1931 – 1997.

EARLY LIFE:
He spent his time during the war in Brighton and it was here he began his art studies. He started off, as many sculptors do, as a painted but was quickly encouraged by his tutor to concentrate on his sculptures.

EDUCATION:
Rice attended The Riyal Academy School in London. He was a trained artisan from an academic background and had a humour side, this background gave him great knowledge and mastery of casting, welding and forging.

SUBJECTS OF WORK:
Sean had a great imagination and used this to put his own twist on traditional religious and mythical themed work. This was highlighted by an installation at Liverpool’s Roman Catholic Cathedral which was commissioned by Bishop Derek Worlock. Rice has done many big commissions one being a 17ft fountain of ascending birds near Liverpool’s Albert Docks.
