Richard Marti was born in England in 1969.
Early Life
From an early age, Marti developed a strong interest in art and design. His passion for gardens exposed him to a wide range of creative disciplines and materials, shaping his multidisciplinary approach. In his early twenties, he worked with artist blacksmiths, where he developed a particular interest in designing large-scale sculptures and architectural garden features.
Education
He trained as a landscape architect in England and studied horticulture with the Royal Horticultural Society.
Career
During the 1990s, Marti established a successful garden design and construction business in Surrey, England, working on large private country estates. In 2001, he relocated to Switzerland, where he continued to build his reputation, operating a garden design, construction, and maintenance business near Zürich. His approach emphasizes quality and close personal involvement, typically limiting projects to ensure daily supervision.
In 2007, he received his first sculpture commission, marking an expansion of his creative practice. Since then, he has produced over 200 sculptural works and is also recognized as a product designer. His career has taken him across Europe, including living for 25 years in the Swiss Alps before relocating to Tuscany in 2025.
