Moses Masaya
Moses Masaya, born in Nyanga, Zimbabwe in 1947, and is a first-generation sculptor. He was first exposed to sculpture in 1966 by Frank Vanji. His talent was recognized by Joram Mariga in 1968, leading to two years of mentorship. In 1970, he joined Frank McEwen’s Vukutu Workshop, where his work gained international recognition, including an exhibition at Musée Rodin in Paris. Masaya preferred carving green serpentine stone, often altering its shape dramatically with sharp, clean lines. He has taught many artists, including his cousin Eddie, and inspired Lucky Office, another leading Zimbabwean sculptor.
