EDUCATION:
Studied Fine Art at Leeds Polytechnic, graduating in 1988. Due to restricted budgets at university, Mick began using scrap metals in his work, a practice that has continued throughout his career.
CAREER:
Holmefirth Kirkby-Geddes has worked as a self-employed sculptor since completing his degree. He works on commissions, private sales and educational projects, including workshops and collaborations in schools.
MEDIUMS USED IN WORK:
Working predominantly in metal, Mick creates sculptures using reclaimed and scrap materials, embracing the character and history of the medium within his work.
SUBJECTS OF WORK:
Strongly influenced by cartoons, 1970s children’s television and books, his sculptures often combine humour, nostalgia and imaginative character-driven forms.
EXHIBITIONS:
His work has been exhibited throughout the UK in galleries, sculpture parks and public exhibitions, alongside numerous private and commissioned projects.
