Michael Cooper was born in Dublin, Ireland.
LIVES:
He lived and worked in the UK.
EDUCATION:
He studied at Heatherley’s School of Art and continued his training under Anthony Gray, developing a strong grounding in both classical and contemporary sculptural techniques.
CAREER:
Working in marble, stone, and bronze, Michael Cooper created sculptures and carvings ranging from small to large scale. His work focused on the natural world, capturing the form and spirit of animals, birds, and the human figure.
He exhibited widely from 1974 onwards, including at London and Jersey Zoos, Yorkshire Sculpture Park, the Royal Academy of Arts, Gloucester Cathedral Crucible exhibitions, and Gallery Pangolin. Notable later works included a commissioned alabaster Dodo for Oliver Hoare’s London exhibition Every Object Tells a Story, a reclining Travertine marble figure for Covent Garden, and three bears in Belgian Fossil Marble for Bicester Village.
Michael Cooper passed away in 2025, leaving a lasting legacy of craftsmanship and artistic sensitivity.
