Martin Norman
BORN:
Martin Norman grew up in Henley –on –Thames, Oxfordshire
EDUCATION:
Achieved a BA honours Degree in design (product) from Colchester Institute in 1995.
CAREER:
On leaving university he got a job working for “The Sculpture Workshop” where he worked for 4 years learning all aspects of the moulding and casting process. He was involved in making moulds and casts for many prestigious artists including Anthony Gormley, Anish Kapoor and Sophie Ryder.
In 2001 Marin moved to Holmfirth, West Yorkshire and in 2004 set up a moulding and casting company called “Sculptural Forms”. He has since been trading for nearly 12 years and has customers across the country.
In 2006 Martin started to create his own sculptures alongside the moulding and casting business and over the years has built up a body of work.
MEDIUMS USED IN WORK:
He sculpts in either clay or plasterlene. Each mould is made using silicon rubber with a fiberglass jacket. He currently casts all his pieces in cold cast resin achieving different finishes such as a traditional bronze resin, verdigris bronze resin, rusted iron resin and copper. His work is a mix of limited and open edition pieces.
SUBJECTS OF WORK:
His sculptures are of an illustrative style and he exaggerates parts to create character and give each piece a personality. He has always been interested in the use of movement within sculpture and has created a range of water features that compliment other work.
EXHIBITIONS:
He also enjoys working on public art pieces and undertaking commissions.
