Lisa Petibone
BORN:
California
LIVES:

EDUCATION:
Lisa studied at the California College of Arts and Crafts, then at the University for the Creative Arts (UCA) in Surrey, having moved to the UK in 1990
CAREER:
She was art director for BBC Books until 2001 whereupon she left to freelance and
pursue glass making and sculpture, setting up her own glass studio and workshop in Shere, Surrey
MEDIUMS USED IN WORK:
Glass, fabric, steal
SUBJECTS OF WORK:
Tension, gravity, compression and energy flow. Although these are ordinary phenomena, tangibly present everywhere, she is fascinated by the process of revealing them in kiln formed glass. The resulting sculpture emerges from its surroundings, subtly coaxing the viewer to question how we are connected to the forces forming the work and indeed the natural world itself. The juxtaposition of the natural and the man-made have a strong presence in her work, along with an interest in distinctive line and illusive form.
EXHIBITIONS:
Aside from frequent exhibitions, Lisa also works to commission where she can respond to a natural or historical setting, and she has completed numerous commissions for the National Trust.
