CAREER:
Kate has had many different jobs along the way including, Assistant to a rocking horse maker, Head of Technology in a day school over seas, Banker mason and design for Templestone Fire surrounds, before concentrating on producing sculptures for both private clients and exhibitions.
MEDIUMS USED IN WORK:
Although Kate has worked with many different types of stone, her favourite is Portland. It takes a huge amount of effort and human endeavour to quarry stone, a precious resource extracted from the land, and she feels an emotional link to the stone that is local.
Her work is fashioned using traditional techniques, where the craftsmanship is important, but in a contemporary way, producing quirky and original sculpture.
SUBJECTS OF WORK:Â
When Kate looks at a stone, she sees time in a solid form, millions of years’ worth. She works to make sculpture that keeps this essence of the ancient, but tries to view stone with fresh eyes, and produce work that surprises and intrigues.
