Eve Shepherd
BORN:
Eve was born in 1976 in Sheffield, coming from a family with a background in steelworkers and cutlers.
EDUCATION:
Eve began her sculpting journey at just 17, when she was accepted as an apprentice to the well-known animal sculptor Anthony Bennett. Recognising her talent, Bennett recommended her to the production resource company The Scenic Route, where she worked from 1992 to 1997 and eventually became their head of department. She was accepted by Chelsea University, where she studied sculpting between 2001 and 2002.
CAREER:
After gaining recognition as a respected sculptor, she chose to focus on her own work and became freelance. She now works as a freelance sculptor, producing a wide range of public and private commissions.
MATERIALS:
She works primarily with bronze and clay to create her sculptures.
STYLE & SUBJECT:
Her work challenges social beliefs and taboos, addressing themes such as oppression and the human condition in a distinctive way. She also explores nature and symbiotic relationships, often combining human forms with animals, plants, and fungi to create hybrid figures. She believes sculpture is a powerful tool for education and uses it to communicate complex ideas.
