Eli Ilan
BORN
Eli Ilan was born in 1928 in Canada and passed away in 1982. He later became an Israeli sculptor, contributing significantly to modern sculpture in Israel.
CAREER
Ilan began his higher education at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, completing a pre medical course. In 1948, he immigrated to Israel, where he studied pre-historic archaeology and physical anthropology at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. In 1956, he returned to Canada to pursue formal training in sculpture at the Ontario College of Art & Design, followed by additional study in Criminal Identification Techniques in Ottawa. Afterward, he returned to Israel and served four years in the Israeli Police Force. Ilan is best known for his monumental work Dolmenic Arch I (1981), located on the Tel Aviv University campus, which exemplifies his exploration of form, space, and modern sculptural expression.
