Eckel comes from a very large family, his dad had 4 wives, 14 sons and 14 daughters, there wasn’t enough money to send all the children to school, Eckel’s cousin encouraged him to take up carving. He done a 4 year apprenticeship then moved to Tengenenge art colony, it was here he started working as an independant sculptor. His work is usually imspired by human figures.
