Ekel Nyamhondoro

Born in Zimbabwe, 1972.
LIVES:
Tengenenge Art Colony, Guruve, Zimbabwe.
EARLY LIFE:
Ekel Nyamhondoro comes from a very large family. His father had four wives, with a total of 14 sons and 14 daughters. Due to financial difficulties, there was not enough money to send all the children to school. Encouraged by his cousin, Ekel took up stone carving at a young age. He completed a four-year apprenticeship before moving to the Tengenenge Art Colony, where he began working as an independent sculptor.
CAREER:
Contemporary Zimbabwean sculptor associated with the Shona sculpture movement. Ekel Nyamhondoro is recognised for his expressive stone carvings, often inspired by human figures and everyday life. His work reflects strong family and cultural influences and has been exhibited internationally through galleries specialising in Zimbabwean sculpture.
