Donald Potter

BORN:

21 April 1902 – 7th June 2004. Newington, UK. He was the son of a school teacher and went to private school.

CAREER:

Donald was an expert crafts man, working as a wood carver, he produced totem poles, gates and gate ways. He would only use local fallen oak trees. As well as woodcarving potter started to work in stone and got to meet Jacob Epstein. In 1931 he asked Eric Gill ( a great engraver ) if he could study under him, he had a six month trial which lasted 6 years. September 1940, a year into the war, Potter went to teach at Bryanston School, Dorset. He stayed for sixty years
