Austin Productions
BORN:
1952 – 2009 Brooklyn, New York, USA
EARLY LIFE:
Founded in Brooklyn, Austin Productions emerged as a leading manufacturer of high-quality decorative sculptures, combining classical techniques with mid-20th-century design sensibilities.
EDUCATION:
Operated as a professional workshop, training artisans in plaster and Durastone casting, hand-finishing, and painting techniques to ensure museum-quality replication and original designs.
CAREER:
Produced a wide range of collectible sculptures from 1952 until 2009, including classical Greek and Roman busts, Art Deco figures, African-inspired works, animal sculptures, children’s figures, and abstract compositions. Collaborated with notable designers such as Klara Sever and Alexander Danel, creating both original works and reproductions, including “The Thinker” after Auguste Rodin.
MATERIALS:
Primarily worked in plaster and Durastone, often finished to resemble bronze, stone, wood, or terra cotta. Sculptures were hand-cast, hand-painted, and frequently signed or marked for authenticity.
STYLE AND SUBJECTS:
Styles ranged from classical and Art Deco to modern abstract, animal figures, and decorative contemporary works. The company’s pieces are characterised by dramatic presence, attention to detail, and mid-century aesthetic appeal.
AWARDS AND EXHIBITIONS:
Highly collectible, with original pieces marked “Austin Prod Inc” or “Austin Sculpture,” accompanied by production year and sometimes the artist’s signature. Works remain sought-after in secondary markets and auctions for their quality and artistic value.
