Blue Planet by Martyn Barratt, Kiln Formed Glass, Unique, 36cm high by 34cm wide by 22cm deep, Abstract, Nature sculpture, Circle Sculpture, Round sculpture.
Martyn Barratt’s Blue Planet immediately draws the viewer with its luminous beauty and captivating form. Crafted from kiln formed glass, the sculpture stands 36 cm high, 34 cm wide, and 22 cm deep. Its circular shape mirrors the Earth, creating a visual echo of the planet’s unity and continuity. Rendered in deep oceanic blues with subtle green accents, the colours flow organically across the surface, suggesting water currents, vegetation, and the delicate balance of natural ecosystems.
As light passes through the glass, translucent and opaque tones shift, refract, and shimmer. From one angle, the sculpture feels serene and still, from another, it appears to ripple with movement. Consequently, each viewing reveals new textures, nuances, and layers of colour, evoking the dynamic interplay of water, atmosphere, and land. The green accents weave through the blues, reinforcing the interconnectedness of nature and reminding viewers of the Earth’s fragile beauty.
Barratt’s mastery of kiln formed glass and sensitivity to material give the piece both presence and delicacy. Furthermore, the circular form and flowing colour suggest harmony, continuity, and shared life forces. The sculpture invites contemplation, encouraging viewers to reflect on their relationship with the planet and the cycles of nature.
Elegant in scale yet visually commanding, Blue Planet transforms any space into a focal point. Its luminous quality thrives in light filled interiors, galleries, or contemporary collections, where the shifting light brings it to life. By combining form, colour, and material, Barratt creates a work that celebrates both the beauty of the Earth and humanity’s connection to it.
