Two Directors Relief by Bernard Meadows, Bronze

Two Directors by Bernard Meadows (19 February 1915 – 12 January 2005) Bronze, Edition of 6, Stamped ‘M’, Piece 1: 62cm high by 36cm wide by 12cm deep, Piece 2: 72cm high by 35cm wide by 17cm deep, Abstract, Body, Female, Figurative, Brown, Sculpture

Two Directors Reliefs is one of Bernard Meadows’ most significant sculptures, marking a pivotal shift in his work following a 1960 trip to Italy. This journey redirected his artistic focus from animals to humans. Moving away from depicting ‘damaged’ and vulnerable figures, Meadows began to explore themes of human aggression.

The sculpture was inspired by a photograph of director Luchino Visconti on the set of his 1963 film “The Leopard,” where Visconti is seen fiercely pointing ahead with his arm extended.
