Double Eye by Mel Howse Enamled Stainless Steel & Oak represents poverty, inequality and lack of power. The vertical eye at the top depicts the human eye and society???s conscience, staring out challengingly. The lower eye sits at the bottom of the deep bowl below and symbolises the poor as is unseen from a distance and lost if the viewer walks away.
Double Eye was commissioned by Christian Aid in 2010 and has been exhibited over a three year period in Britain???s cathedrals.
It is believed that this piece features the largest hand worked enamelled bowl that has ever been made and measures approx. 120cm in diameter and 60cm in depth.
