Kim Francis
CAREER:
Kim Francis first trained as a Jeweller in London, where her work moved from body adornment to sculptural forms. She developed her metalwork and modelling skills through working in acclaimed bronze casting foundries in the U.K and the USA.
Her carving skills were honed during frequent trips to Italy where she discovered her love for marble, though Kim continues to explore materials such as Ceramic, Bronze and Paper in her highly original work.
SUBJECTS OF WORK:
She is interested in both the elegance, and menace of natural forms, with simple objects as testaments to processes of decay and regeneration. In contrast to this, is an exploration of the structural beauty, and integrity of line and form, so effortlessly present in the natural world.
Notions of beauty and ugliness can be challenged within these two aesthetics.
